Under the high patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication – Culture Sector, in collaboration with the Meknes Prefecture, is organizing the 23rd edition of the Volubilis International Festival of Traditional World Music. The festival will take place from September 12 to 15, 2024, at the Volubilis archaeological site and in the city of Meknes.
The festival aims to celebrate cultural heritage in its various forms and expressions, as well as artistic creativity, with a focus on preserving intangible heritage. It also seeks to highlight the touristic, cultural, and historical features of the archaeological sites and historical landmarks in the region.
This edition will feature 44 artistic performances by groups and artists from Morocco and abroad, including participants from Spain, China, Senegal, and Jordan. The performances will be distributed across four main venues: the Volubilis archaeological site, the Administrative Square, Lahdim Square, and the Faqih Mohammed El Menouni Cultural Center.
In recognition of Morocco’s performing arts pioneers, four prominent artists will be honored during the opening ceremony: Mohamed Briouel, Mohamed El Ouali, Hadda Ouakki, and Bouchaib Benakida.
The festival program includes a diverse range of performances, encompassing traditional Moroccan music, international shows, and contemporary artists. Traditional performances from various parts of Morocco will also be presented, including Aissawa art, Gnawa, Andalusian music, and Malhoun art.
This festival provides a unique opportunity for the audience to enjoy diverse musical cultures and promote cultural exchange while celebrating Morocco’s rich heritage and its openness to world cultures.
