Former President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that he intends to appoint billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk to oversee government spending if he wins the upcoming presidential election in November.
In a move aimed at implementing sweeping reforms, Trump revealed his plan to establish a “Government Efficiency Committee” based on Musk’s proposal.
This committee will be tasked with conducting a comprehensive review of federal financial accounts and performance.
During his speech at the “New York Economic Club,” Trump claimed that the new committee could save trillions of dollars by addressing fraud and correcting improper payments within just six months.
He emphasized that Musk, CEO of Tesla and a prominent supporter, would lead this initiative.
Musk has become a significant ally of Trump following a failed assassination attempt on the former president during a campaign event in July.
Despite previously supporting Democratic candidates, Musk has recently shifted his endorsement to Trump.
Musk’s reputation with U.S. regulatory bodies has been controversial.
In 2018, the Securities and Exchange Commission investigated some of his posts on Twitter (now X), calling them misleading.
Despite this, Musk remains committed to advancing major projects like self-driving technology, which continues to face regulatory scrutiny.
