Israel Agrees to Temporary Ceasefire in Gaza to Vaccinate Children Against Polio

An Israeli channel claimed that Israel has agreed to a U.S. proposal for a temporary ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, in order to allow for the administration of polio vaccines in the enclave. Channel 13 reported that the decision for the ceasefire was made by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the security establishment, without informing the members of the small security cabinet.

Polio Vaccines Arrive in Gaza

In a related context, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) announced that it, along with UNICEF and the World Health Organization, are ready to vaccinate 640,000 children against polio in Gaza, after polio vaccines arrived in the Strip. UNICEF confirmed the arrival of 1.2 million doses of the type 2 oral polio vaccine.

Israeli Escalation in the West Bank

In the West Bank, the Israeli army killed 10 Palestinians, injured 22 others, and arrested several in a large-scale incursion into northern West Bank governorates. Israel named the operation “Summer Camps,” describing it as the largest since the “Defensive Shield” operation in 2002.Palestinian factions in the northern West Bank announced their efforts to confront the Israeli military operation, targeting Israeli forces with explosive devices, homemade grenades, and live ammunition.

International Condemnation of Israeli Aggression

Since October 7th, the Israeli army has escalated its attacks in the West Bank and Jerusalem, killing 662 Palestinians, including 150 children, injuring more than 5,400, and arresting over 10,000. Israel has also been waging a devastating war on Gaza since that date, leaving more than 134,000 killed and injured, mostly women and children, and over 10,000 missing, amid massive destruction and deadly famine.Israel continues this war, disregarding the UN Security Council resolution to immediately halt it, and the orders of the International Court of Justice to take measures to prevent genocide and improve the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza.
