Moroccan Prime Minister Meets Mauritanian President, Emphasizes Strengthening Cooperation Between the Two Countries

Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani received Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch on Thursday in Nouakchott, following the latter’s participation in the inauguration ceremony of the Mauritanian President for a second term as a representative of King Mohammed VI.

Akhannouch told the Maghreb Arab Press Agency after the meeting, which was attended by the Kingdom’s ambassador to Nouakchott, Hamid Chabar, that he affirmed to the Mauritanian President the Moroccan monarch’s keenness to strengthen cooperation between the two countries. Akhannouch also conveyed King Mohammed VI’s congratulations to the Mauritanian President on his re-election, and his wishes for further progress and prosperity for the Islamic Republic of Mauritania.

For his part, the Mauritanian President expressed his firm desire to strengthen fraternal relations between the two countries and continue their development in a way that serves the interests of both brotherly peoples. He entrusted Akhannouch with conveying his greetings and wishes to King Mohammed VI and to the Kingdom of Morocco for further prosperity.

It is worth noting that Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani won a second presidential term in the elections held on June 29, securing 56.12% of Mauritanian voters’ votes in the first round.

This visit comes within the framework of strengthening bilateral relations between Morocco and Mauritania, and emphasizes the importance of joint cooperation between the two countries in various fields.
