The Israeli army has admitted for the first time a severe shortage of needed tanks after many of them were damaged by attacks during the war on Gaza, Yediot Aharonot reported.
In its response to the Supreme Court, the army stressed that the experiment to train female officers in the armored corps was not ready due to the great shortage of tanks and ammunition.
The report explained that the Israeli Chief of Staff decided to postpone the experiment until the end of 2025 due to the great challenges faced by the forces, including the rehabilitation of damaged tanks, poor missile capabilities and training staff.
The army explained that this assessment reflects the widespread effects of the fighting in the Gaza Strip and other fronts, noting its ongoing efforts to restore lost combat capabilities and train forces to deal with the ongoing challenges on the ground.
This statement comes in the context of a war that has continued since October 7, 2023, in which Israel has intensively targeted the Gaza Strip and exchanged fire with Lebanese and Palestinian factions across the northern border, resulting in the deterioration of tanks and a noticeable shortage of ammunition.
