Morocco is the gateway to Africa. It seeks to strengthen its economic ties with Asia’s two giants: Japan and China

Tokyo/Rabat: Japanese Foreign Minister Yuko Kamikawa has announced her country’s desire to explore ways to strengthen its economic ties with Morocco. During a press meeting in Tokyo, the minister emphasised Morocco’s vast investment and business potential, describing it as a gateway to the African market and a link between Europe and Africa.

Win-win partnership with China:

The economic partnership between Morocco and the People’s Republic of China continues to flourish, based on the principle of ‘win-win’. Morocco benefits from China’s economic and commercial power, while Beijing sees the Kingdom as a strong access to African markets.

Morocco: China’s gateway to Africa:

‘Economic relations between Morocco and China are going through an important phase,’ says economist Mohamed Jadri, which began with the Moroccan king’s visit to China in 2016 and the kingdom’s involvement in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). Morocco has seen an influx of Chinese investments in the fields of electric batteries, infrastructure and renewable energies, and the number of Chinese tourists to the Kingdom has increased since the lifting of the visa.

The Moroccan Atlantic Initiative:

The Moroccan Atlantic Initiative is seen as a catalyst for attracting more Chinese investment to the Sahel by providing an important logistical outlet. Morocco is also partnering with China to finance the Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline, increasing the competitiveness of Chinese investments in the Kingdom.

Morocco: A regional leader:

Morocco is a leader on the African continent, open to both sides of the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. It is also a leader in the Atlantic Initiative for Central African countries, in the fields of new technologies and renewable energies, artificial intelligence, automotive and aerospace manufacturing and assembly, digital economy, and startup development.

Morocco’s attractiveness for investment:

All these factors make Morocco very attractive to China, which is seeking to expand its access to African countries, both Francophone and Central African.

Mutual benefit:

This strategic partnership is expected to boost the economies of both countries. Morocco will benefit from attracting Chinese investments, while China will have access to promising new markets in Africa.

Conclusion:

Morocco is showing its determination to strengthen its economic ties with major Asian countries, especially Japan and China. These partnerships offer tremendous opportunities for growth and development for both sides and contribute to sustainable development in the region.
