Fouzi Lekjaa Unveils Tax Reforms to Improve Citizens Finances and Promote Social Justice

In an important intervention during the recent parliamentary session, Fouzi Lekjaa, the Minister Delegate for Budget, presented a series of tax reforms aimed at improving citizens’ financial situation and enhancing social justice. The minister explained that the approved tax reforms are part of a broader policy aimed at reforming income tax, with positive implications for the middle and vulnerable classes.

Lekjaa highlighted that the groups previously exempt from 71% of taxes would see a significant improvement in their financial standing, with salaries below 6,000 dirhams now exempt from taxes. This change will allow a large segment of the population to benefit from these adjustments. He further emphasized that the middle class would benefit by more than 70% from the financial effort dedicated to this reform, which costs 8.5 billion dirhams, reflecting the government’s commitment to achieving social justice by improving the financial conditions of this vital group.

Regarding retirees, Lekjaa mentioned that the government had approved a tax exemption for retirees, with 164,744 retirees set to benefit from it. He confirmed that this reform would apply to public sector employees, who make up 86% of the total beneficiaries. This measure serves as significant support for retirees, easing their financial burdens and contributing to their economic stability.

The minister also discussed measures taken to combat tax evasion, emphasizing the importance of simplifying the tax system through the introduction of the unified professional contribution. This measure aims to ease the tax payment process for small and medium-sized independent professions. Lekjaa added that the government had adopted strict measures to combat tax evasion, which would contribute to enhancing financial transparency and reducing social disparities.
