Minister of Industry and Trade Discusses Strengthening Competitiveness and Supporting National Products

During a dialogue session at the House of Advisors on Tuesday, January 8, 2025, the Minister of Industry and Trade emphasized the need to enhance competitiveness and support national products, highlighting the significant progress made by some Moroccan sectors in addressing global economic challenges.

The minister explained that, despite the challenges, Morocco continues to support sectors that deserve assistance. He acknowledged that current efforts are still insufficient to ensure a decent standard of living for citizens, but the government is working hard to provide their rights and enhance their productive capabilities. In contrast, he pointed out that Moroccan sectors are achieving high productivity and contributing significantly to enhancing the country’s global competitiveness.

Regarding Morocco’s competitiveness, the minister highlighted that Morocco ranks among the top countries in sectors that rely on labor, such as the cable and textile industries. These sectors significantly contribute to increasing national productivity, which helps improve Morocco’s position in global markets.

On the growing confidence of Moroccan consumers in local products, the minister noted a significant shift in this regard, with Moroccan citizens increasingly proud to use domestic products, including cars bearing Moroccan brands. He added that surveys show 69% of Moroccans prefer local products over foreign ones, citing their quality and competitive prices.

Addressing the issue of trade dumping, the minister confirmed that some countries engage in dumping policies by exporting products at low prices. However, the Moroccan government is countering these policies by protecting the local market, applying necessary standards to prevent these practices from affecting national companies.

In conclusion, the Minister of Industry and Trade reiterated that the government will continue to support local industries and work on improving the business environment to encourage investment and promote national competitiveness.
