Significant Improvement in Morocco’s Dam Situation Following Recent Rains

The Moroccan Ministry of Equipment and Water has announced a notable improvement in the country’s dam situation thanks to the recent rainfall and snowfall. The filling level of the dams has reached 28.4%, equivalent to a water reserve of over 4.77 billion cubic meters, representing an increase of more than 5% compared to the same period last year, when the reserve was 3.74 billion cubic meters (23.23%).

The recent precipitation has particularly benefited the southeastern, northern, and central regions, with improvements recorded in dams such as Loukkos, Bouregreg-Chaouia, Draa-Oued Noun, and Oum Er Rbia. Among the dams that achieved the best filling rates is the Guir-Ziz-Rheris dam, which stands at 55.72%. Meanwhile, the Loukkos, Sebou, and Moulouya dams have filling rates of 45.61%, 37.33%, and 37.22%, respectively. The Youssef Ibn Tachfine dam has a filling rate of 46.04%.

Despite these improvements, Morocco’s water situation still faces significant challenges. The ministry has called on citizens to avoid wastefulness and to conserve water usage.
