Postponement of Trial for Network Involved in Fraud Targeting Businessmen in Fez

The Criminal Chamber at the Fez Court of First Instance postponed the trial of a network accused of defrauding businessmen to December 31, following a session held on the evening of December 17. The network is allegedly led by a lawyer registered with the Fez Bar Association, along with four other defendants.

The adjournment was due to a technical issue that prevented the activation of a video link between the court and the local prison in Bourkaiz, where the accused are being held. This session marked the first court appearance since the case was referred to the judiciary, following the dismantling of the network by the Regional Judicial Police Brigade in Fez. The operation was conducted based on precise intelligence provided by the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST).

Preliminary investigations revealed that the network exploited a fake commercial company to lure victims by offering vehicles and trucks at attractive prices. The network claimed these vehicles were obtained from car rental companies or public auctions. They managed to collect over MAD 16 million, dividing the proceeds among the perpetrators without delivering the promised vehicles.

The Public Prosecutor at the Fez Court of Appeals extended the suspects’ custody period to deepen the investigation and uncover all aspects of the case, especially after evidence emerged implicating a sixth suspect. The case has been transferred to the Court of First Instance for jurisdictional reasons, while investigations continue to determine responsibilities and trace the embezzled funds.
