Official Opening of Al Amal School in New York: Strengthening Moroccan Identity for Rising Generations

The Moroccan American House Association celebrated the official opening of Al Amal School for the 2024-2025 academic year in New York, amid prominent diplomatic and media presence. The ceremony was attended by the Consul General of the Kingdom of Morocco in New York and members of the consulate, along with elite members of civil society and journalists.

Among the attendees was Mr. Youssef Tssouli, one of the association’s founders, who significantly contributed to establishing the general program for Al Amal School since its inception in 2011. Also present was Mr. Abdelhadi Al-Wahdi, the former president of the association and The current principal of the school , who emphasized the importance of the school’s continued efforts in teaching children the Arabic language and Moroccan cultural heritage.

Al-Wahdi pointed out that the main goal of the school is to introduce the young generations of the Moroccan community to the richness and cultural diversity of the kingdom, and to teach them the Arabic language to serve as a bridge of communication between children and parents. He added that while the school faces some financial challenges, it is determined to continue instilling a spirit of Moroccan patriotism in the youth.

During the opening ceremony, Abdelhadi Al-Wahidi, in his capacity as the director of the educational institution, explained that Al Amal School has been tasked since its establishment in 2011 with transmitting the cultural heritage of the kingdom to the children of the Moroccan community residing in New York and its surroundings. He indicated that the school, hosted by an American public school in Brooklyn, works through its various educational levels and adapted curricula to contribute to collective efforts to enhance the presence of national culture among the rising generations of Moroccans in New York.

This initiative comes as part of the ongoing efforts of the Moroccan American House Association to preserve Moroccan identity and strengthen cultural ties between members of the Moroccan community in the United States and their homeland. Al Amal School serves as a model for educational institutions seeking to combine the preservation of national identity with integration into the host society.
