Moroccan driver Souad Mouktadiri is gearing up for the Dakar Rally, one of the most prominent events in the global motorsport calendar. In an exclusive interview with H24info, the first Moroccan female driver to participate in this competition reveals her vision and ambitions.
Mouktadiri boasts a rich and diverse career, having participated in five editions of the Rally of Morocco, the final round of the World Championship, as well as the Andalucía Rally in Spain and a race in the French Championship. She also took part in the Africa Eco Race 2024, which traces the route of the former Paris-Dakar from Monaco to Senegal, as part of her preparation for the Dakar Rally.
For Mouktadiri, the Dakar Rally represents a true challenge and a dream for all motorsport enthusiasts. She states, “In this field, for us as drivers, the ultimate aspiration is to push the limits, and the extreme is the Dakar Rally.”
Mouktadiri prepared for the race through intensive preparations that included modifying her vehicle for the Ifia category and testing it in the Rally of Morocco. After noting that the car wasn’t fully ready, she sent it to France for electronic revision. She then focused on physical and mental preparation by participating in competitions similar to the Dakar Rally in terms of duration and distance.
Mouktadiri drives a Side By Side (SSV) vehicle from the Canadian brand Can-Am, which has been completely transformed to meet the requirements of the International Automobile Federation. The chassis has been modified and many parts have been changed to make the vehicle strong enough to withstand the impact of stones on the tracks.
Mouktadiri feels immense pressure as the first Moroccan female driver to participate in this competition, especially given the lack of specialists in Morocco for preparing racing cars and the difficulty of finding spare parts. Nevertheless, her main goal is to participate in this competition safely and cross the finish line.
Souad Mouktadiri’s participation in the Dakar Rally represents a historic step for Moroccan sports and opens the door for more Moroccan female drivers to participate in such global competitions in the future.
