Moroccan Government Discusses Amendments to Strike Law in Parliament

During the House of Representatives’ public session yesterday, Younes Sekkouri, Minister of Economic Inclusion, Small Businesses, Employment, and Skills, discussed the government’s ongoing amendments to the strike law. He emphasized that the government is working to address union demands for expanded freedoms while ensuring a balance between workers’ rights and market needs.

Sekkouri stated the government’s commitment to safeguarding workers’ rights within a democratic framework that aims to enhance public freedoms. He highlighted the importance of revising certain legal provisions, such as the timeframes required for initiating strikes in cases of labor disputes or emergencies.

The minister also underscored the need to avoid disruptions to work while protecting the rights of both workers and citizens. He stressed the importance of addressing challenges related to criminal penalties associated with strikes and adjusting them to align with Morocco’s social and economic realities.

Sekkouri affirmed the government’s dedication to continuing dialogue with unions and political parties to achieve a comprehensive consensus that ensures balanced rights. He reiterated the government’s commitment to protecting vulnerable groups and fostering professional and social stability across the country.
