During his address, the Minister of Culture and Communication reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the national press, highlighting significant measures taken since the beginning of its mandate. He emphasized that these efforts were particularly crucial during the challenges faced by media institutions amid the COVID-19 crisis.
The minister noted that the financial aid provided was instrumental in saving many media outlets from bankruptcy and ensuring their continued operation during critical times. Direct support to journalists will continue until March 2025, pending the implementation of the new support framework.
The minister explained that the new decree aims to strengthen the sector with an innovative approach focused on increasing allocated resources and encouraging media investment. This strategy is designed to bolster the national and international presence of Moroccan journalism, particularly in Arab, African, and European markets. The initiative aligns with the current media landscape’s evolution and the growing number of active outlets.
He further stated that the new framework was developed in collaboration with the National Syndicate of Journalists and the Federation of Publishers to ensure it meets the expectations of those working in the field. The minister underscored the pivotal role of journalism as the fourth estate in reinforcing Morocco’s democratic principles and reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting this mission.
The minister announced that applications for the new support system will open in January, with full implementation slated for April 2025. He urged media institutions to prepare for this transitional phase to maximize their benefit from the new resources. Additionally, he stressed the importance of expediting administrative processes to ensure the fair and transparent distribution of aid.
