On November 23, 2024, the city of Fes hosted the 18th Annual Forum of the Occupational Health Association, presided over by Dr. Fouad Boulaqqik, under the theme “The Occupational Health Physician and Prevention of Workplace Health Disorders.”
The event attracted approximately 140 participants from across Morocco, most of whom were occupational health specialists, alongside representatives from the Ministries of Employment, Health and Social Protection, and Trade and Industry.
The forum featured insightful presentations delivered by Moroccan experts and academics, emphasizing the strategic role of occupational health physicians in reducing workplace accidents and preventing occupational diseases. Key topics included advanced techniques for monitoring employee health, first aid in the workplace, occupational mental health, and updates on occupational illnesses. In addition, in-depth discussions explored local and international legislation related to occupational health and safety.
The forum concluded with the formulation of significant recommendations, including a call for the development of occupational health and safety laws and prioritizing this field as a cornerstone for strengthening the national economic fabric.
Participants advocated for the accelerated revision of labor laws and expanding the application of safety regulations to both public and private sectors. Additionally, they recommended facilitating the establishment of shared occupational health services for small and medium-sized enterprises to ensure adequate employee protection.
The attendees also highlighted the importance of mandating insurance for occupational illnesses and enhancing training and awareness programs on prevention and improved working conditions. These measures aim to sustain workers’ health and boost their productivity, contributing to a more resilient and thriving workforce.
