Tangier – Special Report
The Public Prosecutor at the Tangier Court of Appeal ordered on Saturday the detention of six suspects at Local Prison 2 in pre-trial detention, in connection with the killing of a minor student last Wednesday following a fatal stabbing in front of a primary school in the city.
Initial hearings for detailed interrogation of the suspects are scheduled to begin in early December before the investigating judge. The judicial police had arrested six individuals involved in the case, including one adult and five minors, as part of ongoing investigations into their involvement in the killing of the minor student by his classmate at Omar Ibn Abdel Aziz Middle School.
The victim succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday in the ambulance en route to Mohammed V Hospital in Tangier. According to local press reports, he suffered severe bleeding in his thigh after being stabbed by his schoolmate.
This tragedy has caused deep sorrow among residents of the Dradeb area, where both the victim and the perpetrator come from, with both belonging to vulnerable families.
This tragic incident highlights the urgency of the situation, particularly with the increase in school violence in Tangier’s educational institutions and nationwide in recent years. It also reveals the decline in public schools’ educational role due to several factors, including the absence of security inside and around schools, severe shortage of administrative staff, and overcrowded classrooms.
