On Monday evening, November 18, a significant security incident took place in Azrou, where a police officer from the local police station was forced to use his service weapon during the arrest of two individuals who posed a direct threat to both citizens and police officers while attempting to hijack a taxi.
According to a security source, the incident began when a taxi driver and his wife filed a complaint against two individuals who were under the influence of drugs.
The suspects had entered the vehicle and threatened the driver and his wife with extortion. When a police patrol intervened to arrest them, the suspects refused to comply with the officers’ orders and began resisting violently, using a knife to threaten the officers.
In this critical situation, the police officer had no choice but to use his service weapon, resulting in one of the suspects being injured in the lower extremities. This swift intervention neutralized the threat and led to the arrest of one of the suspects, with the knife used in the attack being seized.
Subsequent investigations identified the second suspect, who was later apprehended. The injured suspect was placed under medical supervision in the hospital, while the second suspect is being investigated under the supervision of the public prosecutor, who has ordered an inquiry into the circumstances of the incident and the criminal activities involved.
This incident highlights the heightened vigilance of law enforcement in tackling criminal activities and ensuring the safety of citizens, despite the risks involved in such interventions.
