In a dedicated effort to support the social and economic reintegration of former inmates, the Mohammed VI Foundation for the Reintegration of Prisoners held an equipment distribution ceremony on Wednesday in Meknes. Twenty former male and female inmates received resources to help them launch income-generating projects, promoting their economic stability.
This initiative, with a funding total of 707,604.50 MAD, reflects the Foundation’s commitment to providing practical, meaningful solutions for beneficiaries’ improved livelihoods. According to a Foundation statement, this support forms part of a partnership with the National Initiative for Human Development and has backing from local authorities in the Meknes prefecture.
The projects aim to lower the risk of recidivism and enhance the dignity of vulnerable individuals needing opportunities to rebuild their lives sustainably.
The Foundation’s microenterprise support program follows a personalized approach, beginning with individual life project planning for each beneficiary upon release. Designed to match beneficiaries’ skills with local job market demands, the program involves stages of assessment and preparation, facilitated by specialized partners.
Continued mentorship and support are offered through accompaniment and reintegration centers to ensure sustainable success for the supported projects.
Since its establishment in January 2002, the Mohammed VI Foundation for the Reintegration of Prisoners has been developing comprehensive rehabilitation programs both within and outside prison spaces. The Foundation partners with various actors to reinforce values of citizenship and human rights, assisting former inmates on their journey toward a dignified and independent life.
