In a historic speech on the occasion of the commemoration of the Green March on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, King Mohammed VI presented a comprehensive vision on several strategic issues concerning the Kingdom of Morocco.
Regarding the issue of access to the Atlantic Ocean, the Moroccan monarch referred to an initiative launched by Morocco to establish an international partnership that would guarantee non-coastal countries, especially the countries of the Sahel region, access to the Atlantic Ocean, in a clear reference to Algeria.
In another part of the royal speech, His Majesty called for the restructuring of institutions concerned with Moroccans living abroad, emphasizing the need to establish a new institution aimed at gathering and mobilizing the competencies of the Moroccan community abroad.
The King directed the government to work on establishing an institutional framework based on two main bodies:
- The Council of the Moroccan Community Abroad, as an independent constitutional institution, tasked with thinking, making proposals, and representing the various segments of the community, with emphasis on the need to expedite the issuance of its new law and its installation in the near future.
- The Mohammed VI Foundation for Moroccans Living Abroad, which will assume the executive aspect of public policies related to Moroccans living abroad.
These royal initiatives reflect Morocco’s keenness to strengthen regional cooperation and develop communication mechanisms with the Moroccan community abroad, in a way that serves the strategic interests of the Kingdom and reinforces its ties with its expatriates.
