On Tuesday, Bank Al-Maghrib (the Central Bank of Morocco) denied the detection of alleged counterfeit banknotes at its agency in Tangier.
In a press release, the central bank stated, “Following the dissemination of information in the press and on social networks, alleging the detection of alleged counterfeit banknotes at the Bank Al-Maghrib agency in Tangier, Bank Al-Maghrib assures that this information is completely unfounded.”
The central bank emphasized in its statement that this information “is completely devoid of any truth whatsoever,” stressing that all operations carried out at its agencies are subject to strict procedures to verify the authenticity of the circulating currencies.
