XLinks has announced the launch of its subsidiary “XLinks Morocco Development” in a move aimed at advancing the massive electrical interconnection project between the Kingdom of Morocco and the United Kingdom.
Despite receiving support from major companies such as TotalEnergies, Octopus Energy, and Abu Dhabi National Energy Company, the project faces challenges at the political level, particularly with hesitation from the British side.
The situation has recently been complicated by the position of the British Ambassador to Rabat, Simon Martin, who opposed recognizing Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara during discussions with British parliamentarians, causing discontent among Moroccan officials and some British MPs.
It is worth noting that this project is considered one of the major strategic initiatives aimed at strengthening energy cooperation between the two countries, despite the current political challenges facing its implementation.
