UK-Morocco Parliamentary Friendship Group Reformed to Boost Bilateral Cooperation

In a step reflecting the commitment to strengthen parliamentary collaboration between Morocco and the United Kingdom, the UK-Morocco All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) was reformed in London on Wednesday, October 30, 2024.

This initiative follows the British general elections held in July, which saw the Labour Party come to power, signaling the UK Parliament’s intention to enhance relations and foster dialogue with Morocco.

The multi-party parliamentary group, dedicated to Morocco, comprises over 20 prominent MPs from diverse political backgrounds in both houses of the UK Parliament. Its primary aim is to support efforts to elevate UK-Morocco relations to new levels.

The APPG also plays a role in promoting strategic parliamentary diplomacy, reflecting a British interest in leveraging this cooperation to advance shared interests.

This group paves the way for broader dialogue on regional and international issues, including security, climate change, and economic investment.

Key members include figures such as former Middle East and North Africa Minister Mr. Morrison, former Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Africa Lord Bellingham, and Labour MP Afzal Khan, a prominent advocate on human rights issues.

This reformation highlights an ambitious parliamentary vision to position Morocco as a strategic ally for the UK in North Africa and the Mediterranean, exploring further avenues of bilateral cooperation that serve mutual interests.
