In a move that reflects a shared commitment to environmental education, Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa, President of the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection, and Mrs. Brigitte Macron visited the Botanical Experimental Garden in Rabat on Tuesday, October 29, 2024.
Following an official reception, which included a review of a contingent of auxiliary forces, the Princess and Mrs. Macron toured the garden, where they met with several public figures and officials, including the Minister of National Education, Preschool, and Sports, and the Governor of the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region, along with students from environmental schools.
The visit began with a comprehensive presentation by the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection, highlighting the foundation’s commitment to placing environmental education at the core of its objectives since its establishment.
The presentation outlined the foundation’s goals in enhancing collective awareness and supporting shared responsibility for environmental preservation, particularly through initiatives targeting young children to instill healthy habits regarding natural resources.
The role of the Botanical Experimental Garden, established in 1914 and covering an area of 17 hectares, was also emphasized as a center for environmental awareness and scientific research. The garden serves as a platform to showcase national biodiversity and as an open educational center for the public.
Princess Lalla Hasnaa and Mrs. Macron concluded their tour by observing several activities, including a workshop on aromatic plants held for preschool children, as well as presentations on the foundation’s programs, such as the “Young Environmental Reporters” initiative aimed at fostering environmentally conscious and responsible youth. They also discussed one of the foundation’s key initiatives, which encourages sustainable water management and raises awareness among young people about adopting positive behaviors in this regard.
