The rural community of Aflandra in the Zakarwa region is preparing to host the fifth edition of the National Date Festival, scheduled to take place from November 9 to 11.
This significant event, organized by the Aflandra Cooperative, will bring together over 65 cooperatives from Zakarwa, Ouarzazate, Kelaat Mgouna, and other areas from the Drâa-Tafilalet region and across Morocco.
In a statement by Ms. Khadija Tafoukt, the official spokesperson for the festival, it was confirmed that this edition carries the slogan “Marketing and Valuing Local Products and Promoting Women’s Role in Society.” The event aims to enhance local development, focusing on empowering women and supporting sustainable crafts and agriculture.
The festival aims to improve the income of local families by providing new opportunities for local and international marketing of agricultural products and traditional industries.
Additionally, Ms. Soumia Ait Abd Al-Kabir, president of the Aflandra Cooperative, will present a variety of programs and activities that encompass cultural and sports aspects.
The festival’s activities will include a range of socio-economic and cultural events, such as a sensitization race and workshops directed at agricultural associations.
Furthermore, meetings will be organized to support cooperatives involved in palm cultivation, along with symbolic pricing for selling sheep to aid new cooperatives in the area.
To create a festive atmosphere, attendees will enjoy performances from well-known artists such as Saida Charaf, Walid Rahmani, Al-Benj, and Imghran, alongside local musical groups, making this edition an unmissable event on Morocco’s cultural agenda.
