Morocco Arrests Escaped Portuguese Prisoner, Search Continues for Four Others

In a successful security operation, Moroccan National Security forces in the city of Tangier, in collaboration with the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), have apprehended Portuguese citizen “Fabio Fernandez Santos Loreiro,” who was internationally wanted after escaping from a prison in Portugal.

Loreiro was serving a 25-year sentence for his involvement in a criminal network specialized in weapons theft before managing to escape along with four other prisoners who remain at large.

Portuguese authorities continue to search for the four other escaped prisoners, who are:

  • Fernando Ribeiro Ferreira (63 years old)
  • Rodolfo José Lourman (61 years old)
  • Mark Cameron Roscaleer (37 years old)
  • Chirgeli Vargiani (42 years old)

Authorities have classified these prisoners as among the most dangerous and highly wanted individuals. Neighboring countries, such as Spain, have been called upon to heighten their vigilance and caution due to the possibility of the fugitives’ presence on their territories.

This security operation underscores the effectiveness of international security cooperation and the capability of Moroccan agencies in combating cross-border crime.
