Fez – The new neighborhood of Zouagha Al-Ulya in Fez is witnessing a state of discontent and anger among café owners and shopkeepers due to the continued outage of public lighting at the main entrance of the neighborhood for more than two weeks.
A local source reported that pitch darkness has engulfed the area for some time, causing concerns among both residents and business owners. This dark spot is of particular importance due to the presence of several vital facilities in its vicinity, including the Anbara Administrative Annex, the Keriou El Hadi Youth Center, a banking institution, a children’s play area, in addition to the water and electricity service office belonging to the Zouagha District Council.
Residents and shop owners expressed their dissatisfaction with the complete absence of any intervention by local authorities to solve this problem, directing an urgent appeal to the President of the Zouagha District Council for quick intervention and repair of public lighting in the area.
One café owner stated to the newspaper: “The continuation of this situation negatively affects our businesses and threatens the safety of customers and passersby alike.” He added: “We demand that officials take urgent action to solve this problem that affects daily life in the neighborhood.”
This situation comes at a time when local authorities are seeking to improve infrastructure and quality of life in residential neighborhoods, raising questions about the reasons for the delay in addressing the lighting problem in this vital area of the city.
As of the writing of this report, no official comment has been issued by the Zouagha District Council regarding this issue or the measures intended to be taken to resolve it.
