Moroccan Government Allocates 9.5 Billion Dirhams for Social Support Programs

In a statement following the government council, Mustapha Baitas, the Minister Delegate in charge of Relations with Parliament and the official government spokesperson, announced on Thursday that the Moroccan government has allocated 9.5 billion dirhams to cover citizens’ subscriptions to the “AMO Tadamoun” health insurance system.

Baitas also noted that the government has set aside an additional 25 billion dirhams to support impoverished families, confirming that “these figures are accurate” and that significant efforts have been made in this regard.

He added that families facing severe social hardships, with an index score of 9.34, are eligible for health coverage and social support. According to his statement, around 10 million Moroccans, out of a total population of 35 million, benefit from the 9.5 billion dirhams allocation.

Baitas emphasized that this level of support is unique across Africa and clarified that it has been implemented under the guidance of the King, praising the government’s success in executing this program.

Regarding the upcoming school year, the Minister mentioned that by the end of September, approximately 3 million children will receive financial support ranging between 200 and 300 dirhams, depending on their academic level.

He further affirmed that the government continues to support the Compensation Fund, healthcare, and education sectors, while also introducing new alternatives for housing assistance and maintaining public investment.

Baitas concluded by noting that allocating these amounts does not deepen the budget deficit or increase debt levels. On the contrary, public debt has decreased from 69% to 68%, thanks to ongoing efforts to support vulnerable groups who previously only benefited from the “RAMED” card, despite its known limitations.
