British company “Predator Oil & Gas” has announced a potential discovery of rare helium gas in its exploration area in Guercif, Morocco. This announcement has generated significant interest due to the strategic importance of this gas in various industrial and scientific applications.
According to a statement issued by the company, the presence of helium gas was detected in the MOU-5 well within the Guercif exploration license. The company indicated that estimates of potential resources will be disclosed before the end of the current month, reflecting the significance of this discovery.
The company explained that the geological model for the potential helium gas structure in the mentioned well has been completed by the specialized firm Scorpion Geoscience. The drilling of the MOU-5 well aims to assess the possibility of establishing a helium project, as well as a power generation project from gas adjacent to the Maghreb-Europe gas pipeline.
In a related context, the company announced the expansion of its testing program to include the MOU-3 well, based on a preliminary analysis of data collected during 2024 tests. Additionally, Zenith Energy Limited from Aberdeen has been selected to provide engineering support for operations in Morocco.
It’s worth noting that helium gas is considered one of the rare and valuable gases, used in multiple fields including advanced technology industries and scientific research, as well as being used as a heat transfer medium in some nuclear reactors.
This discovery enhances Morocco’s potential in the field of energy and natural resources, opening new horizons for investment and development in the region.
