Rabat, September 17, 2024 — As part of the ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and ensure national security, the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ) announced the arrest of three individuals, aged between 18 and 39, today, Tuesday. This operation was carried out based on precise information provided by the General Directorate for National Security (DGST). The suspects are believed to be affiliated with the terrorist organization “ISIS” and are suspected of preparing to execute several dangerous terrorist projects aimed at destabilizing the country and endangering the safety of its citizens.
Details of the Operation:
The arrests took place in three different locations: the city of Fes, the city of Fnideq, and the rural commune of “Oulad Ghanem” in the El Jadida province. The operation involved the special forces of the DGST.
Seized Materials:
During the search operations conducted at the suspects’ residences, a number of electronic devices were seized and will undergo necessary digital forensic analysis. Additionally, white weapons and a piece of wood bearing the “ISIS” logo were found. Extremist manuscripts were also discovered.
Severity of the Terrorist Plot:
According to preliminary investigations, the suspects had pledged allegiance to the self-proclaimed leader of “ISIS” and had begun practical preparations for their disruptive plans, which were aimed at vital national interests using explosive devices. These planned terrorist acts were part of what is known as “lone wolf terrorism.”
Investigation Procedures:
The suspects have been placed under provisional detention as the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations continues its investigation to uncover additional details about their plans and to identify any networks and connections they might have with international terrorist organizations.
