In a significant security development, the judicial police in the Moroccan city of Tangier, in collaboration with the services of the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), successfully thwarted an international trafficking operation of a large quantity of chira (cannabis resin) on Wednesday.
According to a statement issued by the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), five individuals aged between 33 and 48 years were arrested. They were caught in possession of 543 kilograms of chira while attempting to cross the border to expand their illegal activities internationally.
The statement added that the suspects have been placed in custody, and a judicial investigation has been opened by the competent authorities to determine the extent of this criminal activity and its details.
This successful operation comes as part of the ongoing efforts by Moroccan security agencies to combat drug trafficking and cross-border organized crime. It reflects the high level of coordination between various security agencies in the kingdom, contributing to the enhancement of national and regional security.
It is worth noting that the city of Tangier, due to its strategic location on the Strait of Gibraltar, is an important point in the fight against drug trafficking between Africa and Europe. Moroccan authorities continue to intensify their efforts to confront this dangerous phenomenon and limit its negative effects on society.
This operation underscores Morocco’s commitment to international cooperation in combating drug trafficking and highlights the effectiveness of its security apparatus in dealing with such complex criminal activities.
