In a significant diplomatic move, the Moroccan city of Dakhla witnessed today the opening of the Consulate General of the Republic of Chad. The event was attended by Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and his Chadian counterpart, Abderrahman Galam Allah.
This development coincided with the anniversary of the recovery of the Oued Eddahab region, giving it special symbolic importance. The opening of the consulate fulfills a decision announced by Chad in September 2022, reaffirming the African nation’s supportive stance towards Morocco’s territorial integrity.
This step is considered crucial in strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries and provides diplomatic support for Morocco’s position on the Sahara issue. The consulate’s opening is expected to facilitate consular services for the Chadian community in the region and enhance trade and cultural exchange between the two nations.
It’s worth noting that the inauguration of the Chadian consulate is part of a series of similar openings by African and Arab countries in the cities of Laayoune and Dakhla, reflecting growing international support for Morocco’s position in the region.
The ceremony, which took place on the anniversary of the recovery of the Oued Eddahab territory, was overseen by Mr. Nasser Bourita and the Chadian Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, African Integration, International Cooperation and Chadians Abroad, who also serves as the official government spokesperson for the Republic of Chad, Mr. Abderrahman Galam Allah.
This move further solidifies Chad’s supportive stance on Morocco’s territorial integrity, a position that was initially declared in September 2022.
