Former French Diplomat: Paris Prefers Moroccan Interests Over Algerian

In controversial statements, former French Ambassador to Algeria, Xavier Driencourt, revealed a shift in French policy towards North Africa, indicating that French companies have greater interests in Morocco compared to Algeria.

Driencourt said in a statement, accompanied by his photograph: “French companies have more interests in Morocco than in Algeria. The French government has considered that the status quo in Western Sahara is no longer viable. Therefore, it is prepared for a potential crisis.”

The seasoned diplomat added that there are “more advantages in rapprochement with Rabat instead of maintaining false appearances with Algiers,” indicating a strategic shift in French policy in the region.

These statements come amid escalating tension between France and Algeria, as Paris appears to be reassessing its economic and geopolitical interests in North Africa.

Analysts view these statements as potentially increasing diplomatic tension between France and Algeria, while possibly strengthening French-Moroccan relations.

It’s worth noting that Xavier Driencourt previously held the position of French Ambassador to Algeria, which lends particular importance to his analysis of the current situation in the region.
