Qatar on Wednesday strongly condemned the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, head of Hamas’ political bureau, in Tehran, calling it a “heinous crime” and a “dangerous escalation.”
In a statement issued by the Qatari Foreign Ministry, which had hosted Haniyeh and members of Hamas’ political bureau and participated in mediation efforts to reach a truce in Gaza, Doha expressed its deep concern over the attack.
The ministry emphasized that this escalation, along with Israel’s continued behavior in targeting civilians in Gaza, could lead to “the region sliding into chaos and undermining the chances of peace.”
