Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Wednesday condemned the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, the leader of the Hamas movement, describing the incident as a “cowardly act.”
In a statement issued by the Palestinian presidency, Abbas strongly condemned the attack, noting that it represents a “dangerous development” in the current situation.
The statement referred to Abbas’ call for all Palestinians to unite, emphasizing the importance of patience and steadfastness in the face of the Israeli occupation.
Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh assassinated in Tehran
The Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas announced on Wednesday morning that its political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh had been assassinated in the Iranian capital Tehran.
According to Iranian reports, his residence was targeted by a Zionist airstrike that killed him and one of his bodyguards.
Hamas condemned the attack as a “cowardly” act and said the response to the assassination would not be delayed. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard reported that it is conducting investigations to find out the circumstances of the incident.
