On Tuesday, the Court of Appeal of Fez issued its verdicts in the case of the infant trafficking network, in which 34 defendants, including 33 in custody, are being tried.
The court acquitted four of the defendants arrested in the case, while the other defendants convicted in the case received sentences of up to 20 years.
The case shocked national public opinion, given the shocking details revealed by the investigations, which related to the immoral trafficking of infants and the manipulation of appointments in large hospitals in the city.
As for the sentences handed down, defendants F.F. and M.H. were sentenced to three years in prison, M.Z. to two years in prison, N.G. and A.K.A. to one year in prison, and B.S., M.A. and A.M. to six months in prison.
Some 19 private security guards, employees and two doctors, who are being held in pretrial detention, were sentenced to four months in prison, in addition to a two-month prison sentence for a doctor being held in pretrial detention.
The public prosecution had charged a number of defendants in this case, including human trafficking, extortion, blackmail, influence peddling, bribery, forgery of official documents, impersonation of a legal entity, waste of public funds, and participation in abortion.
