“Is the Decline of Education and Youth Deviance Due to Women’s Entry into the Workforce?” / HACA Warns Private Radio for Content Deemed Offensive to Moroccan Women

The High Authority for Audiovisual Communication (HACA) issued a warning to a private radio station after broadcasting content considered detrimental to the status of Moroccan women and their contributions to the workforce, as part of efforts to promote gender equality in society.

The authority pointed out that the radio program aired addressed the participation of women in the education sector, and included opinions and content that could undermine the fundamental principles of gender equality.

HACA clarified that its decision was based on its routine monitoring activities in this area, as well as a complaint received from the Federation of Women’s Rights Associations in December of last year. The complaint criticized a statement made by a guest on the program, where the individual claimed that “the main reason for youth deviance is women entering the workforce” and added that “the destruction and failure of education is due to the mixing of genders.” This statement sparked outrage among numerous human rights organizations.

The authority emphasized that the radio program, through its presentation of ideas and viewpoints, contributes to reinforcing negative stereotypes about Moroccan women, which contradicts the core principles of human rights, particularly women’s rights.
