King Mohammed VI Issues Comprehensive Royal Pardon on the Occasion of Eid al-Fitr

On the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, His Majesty King Mohammed VI issued a Royal Pardon benefiting 1,533 individuals, including detainees and those at liberty, who have been convicted by various courts in the Kingdom.

The Ministry of Justice stated in a press release that the Royal Pardon included different categories of convicts. 1,203 detainees benefited from the pardon, with their cases ranging from the pardon of the remaining sentence, reduction of the sentence, and the conversion of life imprisonment to a fixed term.

The Royal Pardon also benefited 299 individuals at liberty, who were pardoned from their prison sentences or the remaining portion, fines, or both.

A notable aspect of this Royal Pardon was the inclusion of 31 individuals convicted in extremism and terrorism cases, who officially declared their adherence to the nation’s constants and sanctities, revised their ideological stances, and rejected extremism and terrorism.

  • Detainees: 1,203 inmates
    • Pardon from the remaining prison sentence: 20 inmates
    • Reduction of the prison sentence: 1,178 inmates
    • Conversion of life imprisonment to a fixed term: 5 inmates
  • Individuals at liberty: 299 people
    • Pardon from the prison sentence or the remaining portion: 54 people
    • Pardon from the prison sentence with the fine remaining: 16 people
    • Pardon from the fine: 216 people
    • Pardon from both the prison sentence and the fine: 12 people
    • Pardon from the fine and the remaining prison sentence: 1 person
  • Individuals convicted in extremism and terrorism cases: 31 people
    • Pardon from the remaining prison sentence: 13 inmates
    • Pardon from the remaining prison sentence and fine: 3 inmates
    • Reduction of the prison sentence: 12 inmates
    • Conversion of the death penalty to life imprisonment: 1 inmate
    • Conversion of life imprisonment to a fixed term: 1 inmate
    • Pardon from the fine: 1 person

On this occasion, the Ministry of Justice expressed its gratitude to His Majesty the King for this noble Royal gesture, which reflects His Majesty’s keenness to give a new opportunity to those who benefited from the pardon to reintegrate into society.
