Moroccan authorities at Laayoune Airport expelled three Spanish activists supporting the separatist Polisario Front on Saturday, denying them entry into the Moroccan Sahara.
Among those expelled were journalist Gara Santa Suárez, university professor Jesús Maezto Tejada, and activist Maria Rosa Fernandez. This move comes as part of a series of measures taken by Moroccan authorities to counter attempts to tarnish Morocco’s image and undermine its sovereignty over its territories.
Morocco’s Clear Stance
In this context, Sahrawi journalist Naama Maoulainine stated, “Morocco’s position is clear: respect for national sovereignty is an inviolable principle, and any hostile maneuver is doomed to failure.”
Similar Incidents
This expulsion follows a similar incident on March 15, when Spanish lawyers supporting the separatist thesis were denied entry into Laayoune. The lawyers, who arrived on a flight from the Canary Islands, claimed they wanted to conduct an investigation into the management of natural resources in the Sahara and assess the human rights situation in the region.
Recurring Attempts
Recent times have witnessed several similar incidents, with Moroccan authorities expelling Spanish parliamentarians from the Basque Country region, as well as nine Italians and one Briton, due to their support for the separatist thesis and attempts to carry out undeclared activities in the Kingdom’s southern provinces.
Orchestrated Operations
Information indicates that these visits to Laayoune are organized in coordination with the Polisario Front and with the support of the Spanish party Podemos, known for its pro-separatist positions.
Firm Stance
Morocco reaffirms its firm stance in the face of these repeated attempts to undermine its sovereignty and territorial integrity, and stresses that it will not allow anyone to carry out illegal activities on its territories.
