Rachid Talbi Alami Addresses Key Issues at Al-Faqih Al-Tetouani Foundation Conference

In his recent remarks at a conference organized by the Al-Faqih Al-Tetouani Foundation, Rachid Talbi Alami, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, addressed several critical issues that are currently of concern to the Moroccan public. Among the topics discussed were opposition stances and the controversial statements made by the Minister of Equipment and Water regarding support for sheep imports.

Regarding the minister’s statements, in which he claimed that 18 sheep importers received 130 billion dirhams in government support, Talbi Alami clarified that these figures were inaccurate. He explained that the actual number of beneficiaries was 100, and the amount allocated did not exceed 300 million dirhams. The support was aimed at alleviating the impact of rising sheep prices on middle and low-income groups, and it has been effective, with some sheep being sold at prices ranging from 4000 to 4500 dirhams.

Talbi Alami emphasized that the statement in question came from the Secretary-General of the party, not the Minister, as it was made during a party rally. He pointed out that political parties in Morocco often make statements reflecting their political positions, which does not necessarily imply an official stance from the government. He added that the government would take appropriate measures based on the accurate data available, with the parliament being responsible for overseeing such matters through investigative committees.

Furthermore, Talbi Alami reaffirmed the parliament’s ongoing supervisory role, mentioning that numerous requests have been made to form investigative committees to scrutinize important issues, such as sheep import practices. He noted that two investigative committees had already been formed to address issues related to roads and quarries and confirmed that these committees would continue their work alongside other parliamentary activities.

Regarding the financial and administrative issues that have recently sparked controversy, the Speaker of the House of Representatives indicated that any related cases would be referred to the judiciary if necessary. He emphasized that the parliament does not intervene in judicial matters and urged anyone who suspects embezzlement or mismanagement of public funds to bring the matter to court, which would adjudicate based on the available evidence.

In conclusion, Talbi Alami reiterated that the government remains committed to providing support to citizens most affected by rising prices. He stressed that Morocco has chosen the path of democracy, which requires a balance between citizens’ rights and economic challenges, adding that democracy comes at a cost, which is a shared responsibility between the government, parliament, and civil society.

Through these remarks, Talbi Alami continues to emphasize the crucial role of parliament in overseeing and guiding the country’s financial and administrative policies, highlighting that addressing economic challenges requires accurate regulation and continuous monitoring by the relevant institutions.
