In its Government Council Meeting: Akhannouch’s Government Congratulates the King and Moroccans on Eid al-Fitr and Approves Laws to Strengthen Economic and Social Development

On Friday, March 28, 2025, the Government Council, chaired by Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch, convened to present two sectoral reports and discuss several legislative projects, as per Article 92 of the Moroccan Constitution.

At the start of the meeting, and coinciding with the celebrations of Eid al-Fitr, the Prime Minister extended his heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the Royal Family, and the Moroccan people, praying to Allah for continued prosperity and progress for the country.

Educational Reform and Development

During the session, Minister of National Education, Preschool Education, and Sports, Mr. Mohamed Saad Barada, presented a report on the major axes of educational reform, highlighting the key projects outlined in the 2022-2026 roadmap for education in Morocco. He noted that the universalization of preschool education has surpassed 80% of the target, with plans to achieve full coverage by 2028. The Minister also introduced the new “Leadership Institutions” project, which includes over 2,600 primary schools and 232 middle schools, aimed at improving the quality of education nationwide.

Enhancing Women’s Rights and Gender Equality

Regarding the progress in women’s rights and gender equality, Minister of Solidarity, Social Integration, and Family, Ms. Naima Ibn Yahya, presented a report covering the major milestones in the path toward equality under the wise leadership of His Majesty the King. The report discussed significant legal amendments, including changes to the Family Code, and reviewed the government’s efforts to implement the 2023-2026 National Strategy for Gender Equality, which aims to empower women both economically and socially.

New Legislative and Decree Projects

The Council also deliberated on several new decrees and laws, approving Decree No. 2.25.148, which aims to expand the “Ain Jouhara” industrial acceleration zone in the Khémisset region, increasing the total area to 117 hectares. This expansion is expected to attract more investments.

Additionally, the Council approved Decree No. 2.24.1143, which defines the roles and organization of the communications sector. This project seeks to broaden the sector’s responsibilities, including the development of the video game industry and enhancing mechanisms to combat fake news, while also creating a modern administrative structure to keep pace with digital developments in the media and communications field.

This session reflects the Moroccan government’s efforts to expedite structural reforms and achieve sustainable progress in key areas such as education, women’s rights, and industry, in line with the country’s future vision.
