As part of ongoing efforts by security authorities to combat human trafficking and irregular migration networks, police officers from the Regional Security Directorate in Al Hoceima successfully thwarted an illegal migration attempt via maritime routes on the evening of Friday, March 28. This operation was based on precise intelligence provided by the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance.
The operation led to the arrest of the main suspect in the act as he was preparing to organize the clandestine journey from the shores of Imzouren. Seven would-be migrants were also apprehended at the scene.
Search operations resulted in the seizure of two traditional boats equipped with marine engines, which were docked at the artisanal fishing port in Driouch. Authorities also confiscated sums of money suspected to be linked to these illicit activities.
Background checks on the main suspect revealed a prior criminal record involving the organization of irregular migration and human trafficking.
The suspect has been placed in police custody pending further judicial investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor. Meanwhile, the detained migrants are being investigated to uncover all circumstances surrounding this case and to assess its potential national and international ramifications.
