Incident at Hassan II University Hospital in Fes Raises Concerns Over Private Security Handling of Patients and Staff

The Fes News newspaper has learned from a reliable source about an incident that occurred yesterday evening at Hassan II University Hospital in Fes, which has highlighted a sensitive issue regarding the conduct of some private security personnel with patients and staff in healthcare institutions. The incident involved a healthcare technician from the Mohamed V Regional Hospital in Sefrou, who was subjected to both verbal and physical abuse while assisting in the transfer of a patient to the university hospital for necessary medical treatment.

According to available details, the technician transported the patient from Sefrou to Fes to receive treatment at Hassan II University Hospital. Upon arrival, he was detained by private security personnel, who surrounded and insulted him in an unprovoked manner. The incident escalated when the technician was verbally abused and physically threatened by nine private security officers. This behavior sparked outrage among some witnesses, who confirmed that the security personnel’s actions were unprofessional and lacked consideration for the human aspect of the situation.

This incident highlights issues that healthcare institutions may face regarding the handling of staff and patients by private security. While security’s role in hospitals is limited to safeguarding facilities and protecting staff and patients, some patients and employees face difficulties with certain security officers who may overstep their bounds, negatively impacting the quality of healthcare services.

The incident raises questions about the effectiveness of oversight and supervision over security personnel in hospitals, particularly in ensuring that appropriate actions are taken to hold those responsible for misconduct accountable. In this regard, the hospital management has not shown any clear steps toward investigating the incident or taking action against the involved personnel.

Additionally, there have been numerous complaints from citizens, many of whom express their struggles to access healthcare services due to inappropriate behavior from certain security officers. Some have noted significant difficulties in entering the hospital to receive treatment or consultations, as their access is unjustifiably hindered. This behavior not only delays patients’ access to healthcare but also exacerbates their suffering, especially for those in need of urgent medical care. Such conduct negatively affects patients’ ability to receive timely treatment, endangering their health and undermining the quality of services provided at the hospital.

This incident raises important questions about the respect for the rights of workers and patients in these institutions and whether the management is taking the necessary steps to ensure their dignity is respected. At the same time, it is expected that the relevant authorities review the performance of private security teams comprehensively, with clear mechanisms and regulations in place to guide their conduct when dealing with emergency cases and patients.
