In a historic move to unify development strategies in Morocco’s telecommunications sector, Maroc Telecom and Inwi signed an agreement on Thursday, March 27, 2025, to settle their previous disputes and consolidate their infrastructure. This agreement, supported by the UAE-based e& Group, which holds a 53% stake in Maroc Telecom, is a significant step towards enhancing the group’s investments in the kingdom, particularly in fiber optics and 5G network development.
Under this agreement, Maroc Telecom and Inwi will create two joint ventures, “FiberCo” and “TowerCo,” aimed at accelerating the deployment of fiber optics and expanding the 5G network across the kingdom. The project will initially invest 4.4 billion dirhams over the next three years, with “FiberCo” targeting the deployment of one million fiber optic subscription points within two years, while “TowerCo” aims to build 2,000 5G towers within three years.
In a statement to the Emirates News Agency, Jassim Mohammed Buataba Al-Zaabi, Chairman of the e& Group, confirmed that this agreement represents a strategic step towards stabilizing the Moroccan market and attracting investments, with a focus on developing digital infrastructure and supporting the country’s digital transformation. He added that the group’s long-term commitment to Morocco reflects its vision to support the national digital economy.
For his part, Hatem Dweidar, CEO of e& Group, emphasized that this agreement marks a new phase in stabilizing the Moroccan market and boosting the group’s confidence in Morocco’s telecommunications sector. It reflects the collaboration between Maroc Telecom and Inwi’s shared commitment to continuously improving infrastructure and enhancing digital services in Morocco.
