In a significant security achievement credited to the Royal Gendarmerie personnel at the Bensouda Territorial Center, security services have dealt a severe blow to a clandestine network involved in the manufacture and distribution of banned plastic bags, following raids on makeshift factories concealed within the Al-Burkani district of Bensouda.
The operation, executed with high professionalism, dismantled an illegal industrial infrastructure that was producing large quantities of prohibited plastic bags, in flagrant defiance of environmental and regulatory laws in force. The following items were seized:
- Tons of ready-to-distribute plastic bags
- Significant quantities of hazardous raw materials used in the manufacturing
- A substantial number of electrical machines and technical equipment
The operation was conducted under the direct supervision of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, where the King’s Prosecutor at the Court of First Instance in Fez gave instructions to continue and expand the investigation to uncover all parties involved in this organized criminal activity.
This security intervention is clear evidence of the readiness and field vigilance of the Royal Gendarmerie personnel in Bensouda, in confronting manifestations of economic and environmental crime, particularly those related to the “plastic mafia” that exploits popular neighborhoods to distribute their products outside the law.
Local sources confirm that these factories posed an environmental and health hazard to the residents, especially since the materials used are not subject to any control or safety conditions.
This achievement falls within the national strategy to combat plastic bags under Law 77.15 and reflects the leading role played by the Gendarmerie services in protecting the national economy, the environment, and public safety.
