Digital Content Observatory Warns: Digital Fraud is Stealing Large Sums of Money from Moroccans – Awareness is the Only Solution

The Digital Content Observatory has issued a new warning about the growing phenomenon of digital fraud, which is increasingly siphoning significant amounts of money from Moroccan citizens through sophisticated deceptive methods, whether via text messages, messaging apps, or fake platforms claiming to offer investment opportunities, business deals, or even social relationships.

The observatory confirmed that dozens of victims are coming forward daily to file complaints related to sending money to unknown individuals or unknowingly sharing security codes, which leads to the theft of their accounts or the draining of their bank balances.

The observatory stressed that the only effective solution is to raise digital awareness across all segments of society, through:

  • Warnings about suspicious links and fake pages.
  • Avoiding sending money or personal information to any untrusted entity.
  • Not engaging with tempting offers of quick profits or “halal investment” without official verification.
  • Reporting any suspicious attempts to the relevant authorities.

The Digital Content Observatory is calling on the media, schools, associations, and civil society to participate in collective awareness campaigns because “digital safety begins with the individual and is achieved through collective cooperation.”
