Complaint from Members of Moulay Bouchtah Association in Taza: Water Shortages and Accumulating Debts Deepen Residents’ Suffering

Members of the Moulay Bouchtah Association in the Ait Sgrouchen municipality, Taza province, filed a complaint with the Public Prosecutor at the Taza Court of First Instance regarding the deteriorating drinking water services in the area.

According to local sources, residents have complained about frequent water outages, which have added to their suffering due to poor management of this vital service.

The complaint detailed that the association, responsible for managing the water supply under an agreement with the local council, is now unable to pay off accumulated electricity bills due to financial mismanagement. The association manages around 500 water meters and collects monthly fees of 10 dirhams per cubic meter of water, in addition to another 10 dirhams as a monthly maintenance fee.

The complaint also addressed the inadequate financial support provided by the local council, which further complicates the association’s financial situation. Despite these challenges, the financial report presented at the last general meeting to elect the management board was rejected by the attending members due to what they considered mismanagement of funds and financial irregularities.
