The Scandals of Akhannouch’s Party Continue in Fes: A Condemnation of an Elected Official from the National Rally of Independents Party for Defamation on Social Media

The Fes Court of First Instance issued a ruling on March 19, 2025, in a case involving defamation on social media, in which an elected official from the National Rally of Independents Party was involved.

The individual holds two representative positions, being a member of the Ouled Tayeb Municipal Council and a member of the Fes Provincial Council, representing the National Rally of Independents in both institutions.

According to the ruling (No. 3089) in the criminal case file number 6010/2104/2025, the court publicly and initially convicted the defendant of the charges brought against him, sentencing him to four (4) months of suspended imprisonment and a financial fine of 2,000 dirhams.

The court also ordered the defendant to pay court costs and set the period of compulsory physical detention at the minimum level. Additionally, the court ruled that the bail amount would be returned after deducting the fine and court costs.

This conviction comes amid a rise in cases related to the misuse of social media, particularly by some local elected officials, raising questions about the boundaries of digital responsibility and the ethics of public discourse in the digital space.
