The political bureau of the Democratic Left Federation Party expressed deep concern over what it described as the “exploitation of Ramadan by certain parties to conduct charitable and humanitarian activities that conceal questionable electoral motives.”
In a statement issued following their recent meeting, the party emphasized the necessity of “activating Article 64 of the Organic Law on Local Authorities,” which allows authorities to dismiss any official found guilty of acts that undermine transparency and integrity.
The party also condemned the “widespread corruption within state institutions,” denouncing what it called the “policy of impunity and cover-up for the corrupt.” The party leadership argued that the political situation in the country is in a state of “stagnation” due to the government’s “monopolization of decision-making” and the marginalization of civil society organizations. This, they claimed, has led to the enactment of laws and measures that limit the fundamental rights and freedoms of citizens. Furthermore, the party criticized the “ongoing trials and accusations aimed at expanding authoritarianism,” along with “economic and social policies that result in further marginalization, poverty, and unemployment.”
At the same time, the party continued its criticism of the persistence of “normalization with rent-seeking and corruption,” which it argued has become an inseparable part of the state’s structure and institutions due to the absence of real accountability and oversight.
The party also expressed its support for “the party’s activists” in their struggles within local governments and declared its full solidarity with activist Farouk El Mahdawi, a member of the party’s political bureau, who is facing a defamation campaign and pressure due to his exposure of violations related to house demolitions in Rabat.
In the realm of human rights, the party reiterated its calls for the “release of political prisoners, journalists, and activists from the Hirak protests,” urging a halt to prosecutions related to freedom of expression.
The party strongly condemned the “genocidal war” being waged against the Palestinian people, demanding an immediate halt to normalization with the Israeli occupation. It also called on the United Nations to intervene swiftly to stop the aggression against the Palestinian people, affirming their right to establish an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.
