Reports from internal affairs departments in several provinces have revealed suspicious activities by associations responsible for managing school transportation. These associations are suspected of organizing recreational trips after Eid al-Fitr, potentially exploiting them for electoral gains in favor of local council presidents and elected officials, ahead of the 2026 elections.
These associations, which benefit from partnerships with elected councils, use buses under their management to organize trips for women and children, funded by current and future candidates. This includes covering expenses such as fuel, food, and accommodations.
In response to these developments, the central services of the Ministry of Interior have issued strict instructions to territorial officials to monitor these activities and curb any violations. The ministry warned against exploiting the resources and facilities of associations in premature electoral campaigns.
Some former elected officials, who now oversee other associations, have become “electoral brokers,” leveraging their influence within their electoral circles to sway voters. The Ministry of Interior has taken a strong stance against these practices, with the governor of the Sidi Ifni region sending a warning letter to local council presidents, emphasizing the prohibition on using communal resources for political or electoral purposes.
The Ministry’s actions include directives from Minister of Interior Abdoulaye Lftit to regional governors, aimed at preventing the misuse of public funds for electoral gains. These directives cover the monitoring of food aid distribution and ensuring that development projects, such as providing electricity and water, are not disrupted.
These measures reflect the Ministry’s commitment to preventing any electoral exploitation of public funds or association services, ensuring the integrity of the electoral process. As elections approach, the Ministry is expected to intensify its oversight of activities related to associations, particularly those receiving public support, to prevent them from being used to serve electoral agendas at the expense of public interest.
