Morocco’s General Directorate of Meteorology has issued an orange-level weather alert, warning of significant snowfall and strong winds in several provinces. The alert indicates that snowfall is expected to reach up to 40 cm in areas above 1,400 meters, including Al Hoceima, Chefchaouen, Boulemane, Ifrane, and Sefrou, from Sunday midnight to Monday afternoon.
In regions with elevations above 1,700 meters, such as Guercif, Taza, Beni Mellal, Azilal, Khenifra, and Midelt, snowfall could accumulate up to 25 cm from Sunday morning to Monday midday.
Additionally, strong winds with gusts between 70 and 85 km/h are expected to sweep across various regions, including Taourirt, Guercif, Figuig, Boulemane, Jerada, Oujda-Angad, Taza, Agadir-Ida-Ou-Tanane, Chtouka-Ait Baha, Tiznit, Inezgane-Ait Melloul, Guelmim, Assa-Zag, Tan-Tan, and Sidi Ifni. These winds will stir up dust storms, reducing visibility and creating hazardous driving conditions, especially on mountain roads and desert highways.
Authorities urge residents and travelers to exercise extreme caution and avoid unnecessary travel in affected areas until conditions improve. Local officials may implement temporary road closures or emergency measures to ensure public safety.
